sundown

we walked a few paces
draped in civil war rags
your breast hanging out and your nipple hard
my thin hands weaving out from my white cuffs
red blazen eyes hungry for more than beauty
but what else lay naked before me
it was sundown and you were so cold
getting colder
and the beer that somehow numbed your wrist
was just a lot sweeter than the vodka that was strangling you

sundown you said there was something to learn
but what we found was darkness
